Company Profile

The Hong Kong Young Talent Cantonese Opera Troupe is a non-profit-making organization established in 2008. It has twice been a three-year funded organization by the Cantonese Opera Development Fund "Hong Kong Liyuan Cantonese Opera Troupe", and has been funded by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council since 2015. The average age of the main members of the troupe is under 30 years old. Through systematic training and performances, young actors have gradually emerged, and their artistic standards are widely accepted and recognized by Hong Kong Cantonese opera audiences. Therefore, they are recognized as the most energetic Cantonese opera successors.


In addition to performing traditional repertoires, the troupe also performed new playwrights "Eight Immortals in the East China Sea" (2009), "Thunder" (2009), "Love Waves" (2010), "Blessing Birthday" (2012), "One Dream" "Nanke" (2013), "Beautiful Love of Fenghuohe River" (2015) and "Official Family Affairs" (2018). In addition to performing in theatres, the troupe also undertakes the responsibility of promoting Cantonese opera. It performs promotional performances for different schools every year, which arouses students’ understanding of traditional Cantonese opera art. At the same time, the troupe has also been invited by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to perform on tour and participate in Performances on Cantonese Opera Day and School Culture Day. In 2013, he was invited by the West Kowloon Grand Theatre to perform excerpts and traditional operas, both of which were fully booked. In March 2014, he was invited by the Hong Kong Arts Festival to participate in the 42nd Hong Kong Arts Festival, performing "Wearing Gold Fan" and "Wu Song", and was awarded the voluntary art direction by Dr. Lin Jiasheng and Ms. Ren Binger. From 2013 to 2016, he performed at the Chinatown People's Theater in Singapore three times, and received rave reviews, which made local Cantonese opera audiences aware of the new development of Cantonese opera in Hong Kong.
